Some of the most powerful people in Hollywood are working in or have projects set in Hawaii, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s new list of the 100 most powerful people in entertainment, including the executive at the top of the list, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co.
Disney owns Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, at Ko Olina Resort, and is also planning to release for Thanksgiving a new animated film, “Moana.” The movie will feature the voice of Aulii Cravalho, a Kamehameha Schools student, as the title character and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — No. 54 on the list — as the demigod Maui.
John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, and executive producer of “Moana,” was ranked 17th on the Hollywood Reporter list. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who penned this year’s Broadway smash “Hamilton” and who is writing the music for “Moana,” is No. 100.
At No. 99 is the star of one of last summer’s big movies, Chris Pratt, whose “Jurassic World” was filmed on Oahu and Kauai, and became the fourth-highest grossing movie of all time, hauling in a total of $1.67 billion since its opening a year ago.
