KO OLINA (HawaiʻiNewsNow) - About 4,000 Thanksgiving meals, with all the fixings, were delivered to families in need Saturday. It was part of Ko Olina Resort’s 26th Annual Thanksgiving Outreach.
The event brought together more than 100 resort employees and community partners: Leeward Community College’s Culinary Arts Program and United Parcel Service (UPS). Organizers said they helped prepare and distribute the meals to 25 churches, shelters, and veterans’ organizations from Waiʻanae to Waipahu.
“For 26 years, our Ko Olina ʻohana has come together with neighbors and friends to share aloha and provide west side families the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together,” said Sweetie Nelson, director of destination marketing for Ko Olina Resort. “That spirit of giving and togetherness is what defines Thanksgiving for us.”
LCC’s culinary arts students prepared more than 2,700 pounds of turkey, 750 pounds of ham, 600 pounds of rice, over 100 gallons of gravy, 400 pounds of corn, and 100 pans of pumpkin pie. UPS drivers volunteered to deliver over 500 trays of food to the outreach sites.
