Music: Jon Honda
A lifelong lover of both traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music, Honda’s passion was first nurtured by his father, whose influence continues to guide and inspire his musical journey. In 2012, he received his first guitar, sparking a deeper connection to the craft. Since then, he has grown into his artistry, recently stepping into the spotlight to share his vocal and instrumental talents with local communities. Blending heartfelt mele with a modern touch, his music reflects a deep respect for culture, storytelling, and the healing spirit of aloha.
Short Film: Hōkūleʻa: Finding the Language of the Navigator
Award-winning director Ty Sanga’s 2006 documentary follows cultural anthropologist Wade Davis as he sails with master navigator Nainoa Thompson to learn the ancient art of wayfinding. Fifteen years later, the two reunite to reflect on the mysteries of traditional navigation and envision a future inspired by the navigator’s language. This captivating film was honored as Best Made in Hawaiʻi Feature Film at the 2023 Hawaiʻi International Fim Festival and was also nominated for Best Hawaiʻi Film by the 2024 Hawaiʻi Film Critics Society.
