KO OLINA, Oʻahu (Island News) -- A night of music in West Oʻahu turned into a major show of support for communities impacted by recent storms. The Hawaiian Council and Ko Olina hosted the “Aloha in Action” music festival Thursday, drawing thousands of attendees and raising money for victims of back-to-back Kona low storms.

Organizers said at least 7,000 tickets were sold, with all proceeds going toward relief efforts for those affected by flooding that damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods across the islands.

“All the money will go to people that are impacted,” said Kūhiō Lewis, president and CEO of the Hawaiian Council. “That money will go where it needs to go to support people. We’ve been on the ground and already given a quarter of a million. It wouldn’t be possible without all of you.”

Attendees said they came not only for the performances by top island artists, but to support neighbors in need. “When I was seeing it on television, on the news, my heart went out to all of the people that were affected,” said Lanetta Brooks, who attended the event with a friend. “Hawaiʻi definitely will come out and support this — we’re going to take care of our own.”

Dozens of local vendors also took part, serving food and selling goods throughout the night. Some said participating was an easy decision. “It’s heartbreaking to see a community struggle that way — to lose homes and go through those challenges,” said Chelsea Davis of Chelsea Lei Accessories. “No hesitation, I’m there. That’s what Hawaiʻi is all about — helping the people.”

Organizers said the event highlighted the strength of the community, with residents coming together to support recovery efforts and show that the spirit of aloha remains strong.
